The Tolstoy Foundation Rehabilitation and Nursing Center (TFRNC), was founded in 1970 by Alexandra Tolstoy, the youngest daughter of the famous humanitarian and author Leo Tolstoy, and her esteemed friend and co-founder, Tatiana Schaufuss, to minister, initially, to the needs of Russian and other Slavic-speaking people. Since then, the Center has opened its doors to anyone in need of either long-term care or short-term rehabilitation.
We are a certified not-for-profit (501-c3), 96-bed skilled nursing community, nestled on a hillside of Rockland County’s hamlet of Valley Cottage, NY. Our service area includes Rockland, Bergen, Orange and Westchester Counties. TFRNC is an easy 40-minute drive from Manhattan and Fairfield Counties.
Our community offers a warm and homelike environment with bright and spacious rooms, looking out onto landscaped grounds, fruit trees, and nature’s wildlife.
The interdisciplinary team of caregivers provides a Resident-centered approach with an emphasis on meeting physical, social, cultural, and spiritual needs, thus ensuring the highest attainable quality of life for each individual. We encourage our Residents to maintain independence within their functional abilities, and we provide the support necessary to help them achieve their goals.
